Caribbean-Themed Party Services
The tastes, sights and sounds of a Caribbean island fete are just a phone call away! To further enhance your party’s tropical feeling, we will arrange any of the following services — from that little extra touch to all-out extravagance.
Get ready to jump in the conga line! This highly rhythmic, traditional playing style involves performers walking about playing with drums strapped around their necks. Want to escape the cold winter blues? Boost morale or attract customers? Christmas caroling through office buildings, neighborhoods and shopping districts will spread cheer to one and all.
Interactive Steel Pan Demonstrations
People are fascinated by the sight and sounds of steel drums. Why not let your guests experience the thrill of playing them? We organize demonstrations for all ages.
We will combine steel band and Caribbean DJ entertainment if desired. Rather than hiring a DJ who plays a few popular Caribbean “hits”, you’ll get a popular Caribbean DJ who plays top-notch calypso, soca and reggae music, mixed in with other music styles.
Limbo Specialists and Dance Lessons
Let our crew of dancers work your party and encourage guests to bump and grind, gyrate, rotate and oscillate the Trini way!
Some of the finest Caribbean masquerade designers will create special costumes for your guests — from small, unique headpieces to full regalia — your guests can wear them and keep them.
Body/Mud Paint Artists and Hair Braiding
Ever since we were small we were always told we shouldn’t play in mud. Here’s a chance to party the night away J’Ouvert Morning-Carnival style splattered with good clean mud… regular or colored (ever see the off-Broadway smash hit “Blue Man Group”?). Just wear some old clothes and we’ll bring some good old fashioned mudder earth with us. Our body painters and hair braiders can be on hand to give each guest a custom adornment. Just like in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica or Brazil!
Fire Eaters and Stilt Walkers
Our fire eaters and dancing stilt walkers (“Moko Jumbies”) provide dazzling visual entertainment.
Props and Decorations
Okay, so you want to go all out… our crew will erect and hand-paint the kind of informal, colorful snack shacks you commonly see throughout the Caribbean. These are not Hollywood style sets created by professional stage designers, but rather the authentic work of of creative people who are accustomed to using available materials inexpensively. Set up your bar or serve hors d’oeuvres in them!
West Indian Cuisine
From authentic Caribbean beverages and snacks to full dinners, we work with the community’s best chefs. Add a nice touch to the end of your party by giving your guests a traditional Caribbean party take-home snack such as curried Roti, tasty bake and shark, spicy jerk chicken, doubles, or a cup of fresh, tasty fish broth. We’ll even bring the corn soup man and peanut vendor with us!
Tours, On-Site Private Parties, Concerts
Each year steel pan players look forward to competing in Brooklyn’s exciting, prestigious Panorama Steel Band Competition — held the Saturday night before Labor Day on the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum.
Beginning about 10 weeks before and continuing nightly up until the competition, players come from near and far (west coast, Europe, Canada, Trinidad, etc.) to join up with the orchestra of their choice, learn the band’s tune of choice and practice painstakingly into the wee hours. Rehearsals take place at various outdoor venues in Brooklyn, known as “panyards” or “pan theaters”. It’s a cultural explosion of steel band music, food, and drinks for people of all ages.
We offer two types of services:
We’ll make several stops where visitors can hear and compare the music in progress, sip a cool drink, try some tasty West Indian delicacies and take home a band t-shirt or souvenir.
Party Venues & Concerts
For a completely fresh idea in event venues, hold your next fund raising gala at one of Brooklyn’s best kept secrets: a steel panyard! By prior special arrangement your guests will be treated to a spectacular evening of steel orchestra entertainment and Caribbean DJ music… under the stars in an offbeat and funky setting. Bring your own caterer or let us provide our own authentic Caribbean food and beverages. It’s no wonder that London’s very own Sir Richard Branson is a steel orchestra fan and supporter. Proceeds aid the operations and development of community steel orchestras.
